Advertising colleges in India focus not a single subject of study but try to teach the basics of all the different kinds of work involved in advertising and marketing. There are separate modules in the course itself that deal with these subjects. The basic courses offered at several advertising colleges in India are B.A. in mass communications and B.A. in visual communications. This is a 3 year degree course and can be pursued after the successful completion of XII standard. There are several subjects like the client servicing and copywriting that are taught to make the students more aware of the industry patterns and working. Other theory subjects about subjective marketing are also taught in the later years of the course to enable the students to have that on hand experience when they are recruited by an advertising agency.

Art directors are becoming popular day by day. There are several advertising colleges in India that are deemed as universities by the UGC (University Grants Commission) offer specialized courses in art direction, this profession involves giving basic verbal and visual shape designing and product positioning. Copywriters are given to do an amount of 25 pages of speculative ads as a portfolio before they graduate, this gives them the exposure needed in communications and client management, both are which integral parts of the advertising industry.
